THE AZTECS
The Aztecs are resourceful and hardworking people. They came to the Valley of Mexico in 1100 AD. After 100 years, they controlled all the land in Central Mexico and Central America. Their capital was Tenochtitlan. They made floating gardens which were used to make more farmland. With the use of floating gardens, Aztecs would be able to grow crops even if they ran out of farmland space. They also made aqueducts. They were pipes that carried water to different places. The Aztecs would use aqueducts to carry springwater to storage areas in the city. Lastly, they developed engineering, architecture, art, math and astronomy. In the Aztec government, the most powerful ruler is referred to as Huey Tlatloani. Even though the ruler had very big powers he had to consult with nobles before making a desicion.
The Aztecs worshipped many gods and would hold ceromonies. Aztecs thought that if they held ceromonies it win the favor of gods for good crops or to win a war. They also sacrificed people. They believed that sacrificing people would give the sun strength to rise everyday so that their crops would grow. An Aztec ruler would rule all Aztec lands. One of the Aztec rulers was named Montezuma. He ruled from 1502-1520.
